Catching Fire Giveaway Contest!

Hey guys! I know I'm a little bit behind contest wise. I had meant to post another contest when I hit 100 followers, which whipped right by last week.

So, I've finally read and reviewed Catching Fire and I'm giving my ARC copy away. I want to spread the Hunger Games Trilogy love!

I also am trying to figure out how to get rid of some of these books real quick before I move in November. I'm hoping to read and review a ton of the ARCs and other books I got from ALA. There is a poll up on the sidebar of my blog. Please VOTE! It's only up for a few days, so please please please VOTE! (There will be extra points for this.. )

Now, onto to what you will win:

  • An ARC copy of Catching Fire, read only once! :),
  • A festive mockinjay button,
  • and a set of pretty red earrings from Chatty Cathie:

The Rules:

1. Open to EVERYONE.
2. Please include your email address with your comment(s).
3. Contest ends Friday, August 7th at midnight CST
4. How to get points:

Answer me this question: What is your favorite character of a book you read THIS year and why?
  • +3 for answering the question above
  • +5 for voting on my contest poll! (See sidebar - Ends at 5 pm CST, July 31)
  • +2 for commenting on my review HERE
  • +2 for becoming a follower
  • +5 if you were already a follower
  • +2 for following me on Twitter (@bookgoil)
  • +2 for each time you advertise this contest - sidebar, twitter (please @bookgoil), blog, etc (Please leave a link!)
  • +5 for just looking at Chatty Cathie's website and telling me one piece you think/want to buy or just find shiny and want to stare at all day...
  • +20 if you purchase something from Chatty Cathie's etsy website. You do not have to do this, but take a look at her website and see if there's anything cute you like. You can send me a copy of the receipt at bittahsweetharmony@yahoo.com

I've honestly been pondering the question for ages, looking at my list of books read this year, trying to figure out who my favourite character is. There's just too many great characters out there! I'll make a short list:

- Miles/Alaska in Looking for Alaska
- Katniss/Peeta in The Hunger Games
- Audrey in Audrey, Wait!
- T.C. in My Most Excellent Year
- Kartik in A Great and Terrible Beauty (well, the whole series)
- Parker in Cracked Up To Be
- Clary/Jace in The Mortal Instruments series
- Clay in 13 Reasons Why
- D.J. in Dairy Queen
- Melinda in Speak
- Terra in North of Beautiful

It's not so short... And obviously not complete. But I put quite a bit of effort... extra points maybe? ;)

Fun contest! I actually loved Hunger Games, it is definately one of my top 10 favorite books of the year, so I'd love to get my hands on a copy of Catching Fire.

Hmmm, I'm not sure who my favorite character is. Taken By Storm was probably my favorite book this month. I loved Michael and Leesie, they had loads of chemistry and the stroy totally sucks you in. So, I guess Michael and Leesie are my favorites...

I voted on your poll, and I'm already a follower.

(PS, how do you get ARC copies??)

+3 My favorite character this year would have to be Callie from Prada and Prejudice because underneath her clutzy, insecure self, was a person with confidence just waiting to get out. You could tell that by everything she does when she's in 1815. I just simply loved her because at the end, she found out that all she needed was to be confident and accept herself for who she was.

Okay, I totally misread your question, and thought you were asking about The Hunger Games. Sorry, I left that comment early this morning. To re-answer the question in a better manner, my favorite character of this year is Tally Youngblood from the Uglies series. She kicks ass, and I feel bad for her at the same time because everything always gets blamed on her, and she willingly accepts the blame when it's not her fault.

Sorry to answer incorrectly earlier!

# +3 for answering the question above: My favorite character is Brian from the Hatchet series. Because he his in the forest in most of the series, stranded, there isin't much dialogue, but all his internal chatter and meditation make the book so very interesting. You can see the way his mind set changes, specially in the duration of Hatchet. Though the idea of the series is fairly common, Gary Paulsen brings uniqueness to the story, through Brian.

My favorite character of a book I read this year is Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore because strong female main characters like that are hard to find – at least, they are in most other books I’ve recently read. She had courage, she was intelligent, she seemed intriguing...I really enjoyed reading about her and couldn’t wait to find out what she would do next.

+5 I’d probably pick the last one at the bottom right corner, the Multi Color Faceted Bead Necklace Choker with Purple Haze Swarovski Bicone 5301 Crystals and Memory Wire. That is one stunning piece of jewelry! It’s sooo pretty, sooo shiny…must…stop…staring! This is what one would wear if they wanted to draw attention to their neck. :D
Thanks for the link, by the way! I’ve saved it and intend to return to it once I get a job. :P

+3 = tricky question. I can never pick one, so my favoriteS are: Marcus from Little Brother because he is an absoulte individual, challenging and risky and unashamed; Eff from The Thirteenth Child because she's just endearing; Tood Hewitt from The Knife of Never Letting Go, because I loved being in his head; and Sunshine from Sunshine, because I kind of want to be her. There are so many more, but I loved these guys.

My favorite character from a book I read this year...would have to be Mercy Thompson from Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs. Mercy, short for Mercedes, is a Walker, a human with the ability to shape-shift into a coyote. She gets herself into all sort of trouble with vampires, werewolves, and the fae, but she can kick ass and is surrounded by hot guys all the time. What's not to love?

Even if I don't win this giveaway, I hope that if you haven't checked out the Mercy Thompson series, to check it out! Bone Crossed is actually the fourth installment in this ongoing series. Book 1: Moon Called, is available in major bookstores! Just sharing the love. XD

I checked out Chatty Cathie's website, and I really liked the fairy pendant and the 3-D metal hummingbird embellishment. I love birds, so the hummingbird figure really caught my eye, especially since just two months ago at my previous place of work we rescued a baby hummingbird! It was very cute. :D

My favorite character so far this year is Silas from Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. Always an outsider, he is a monster-turned-caretaker, painfully aware of what he is, yet he has found within himself a deep kindness and ability to care for others. I love the way this character is so subtly and mysteriously drawn.

My favorite character this year has been Anna from Twenty Boy Summer. Despite the fact that her name should have totally been Sophie, I loved her character. Anna and I sort of have a bond in that we both lost really close friends at a young age. I really understood how she was reacting and what was going on with her more than I have any other character.

+5 for just looking at Chatty Cathie's website. I found way too many earrings I want, as usual. I am an etsy-o-holic. I really liked the earrings with the Aventurine Beads, but the ones with the owls, peridots, and opalites were also gorgeous!

There are so many books that I've read this year, but my favorite character is probably either Jace from The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare or Auden from Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen.
