Polly Madassa is convinced she was born for a more romantic time. A time when Elizabeth Bennet and Anne of Green Gables walked along the moors and beaches of the beautiful land, a time where a distinguished gentleman called upon a lady of quality and true love was born in the locked eyes of two young lovers.

But alas, she was not.

This, however, does not stop our young heroine from finding romance wherever she can conjure it up. So while Polly is burdened with a summer job of delivering baked goods from her parents bakery (how quaint!) to the people in her small beach town, she finds a way to force…um…encourage romance to blossom. She is determined to bring lovers, young and old, together…whether they want to be or not.


Why I read this: It's an Egmont debut.. and I love Egmont books.. seriously :-D.

Plot: A cute plot that parallels with Austen's Sense and Sensibility plot. I love how Polly is obsessed with Austen and LM Montgomery's books and I always cracked up when she reverted back to normal teenage speak (always just momentarily, of course). Definitely a fun story full of sweet intentions and consequences that Polly innocently does not anticipate.

Characters: Polly loves Pride and Prejudice and Anne of Green Gables. So, she dresses and acts like the characters she so loves. She even takes on matchmaking, thinking that is her sole purpose in life - to match people up together. Of course, not everything goes right - even in her own romantic life.

Relatability: I can definitely relate to being a dreamy young girl and imagining myself as a character in a book. I never went as far to dress and act like them for longer than a few hours, but I can definitely relate.


Cover Commentary: Very cute and fitting to the book.

  1. I enjoyed Austen's books and I believe that those other books that have Austen's references should be fun to read as well! Thinking of reading this one anytime soon =)

  6. I love the idea of a girl acting like her favorite characters. I can remember wanting so badly to become a boxcar kid after reading The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner (this was before it became a franchise). I begged my parents to let me sleep in the garage with a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread.

    This is a great new title to add to my reading list. Thanks for the lovely review.

  15. I'm not an Austen fan but I am a huge Montgomery fan and your review made the story sound like it would be a fun read. I'm going to climb out of comfort zone and add this one to my wish list. Thanks. :)

  18. I've been wanting to read this one. I can relate too. I can imagine myself sometimes as characters in books but I'm with you, I don't dress up like them.

  19. this book sounds reallyyyyyy cute and fun! I can relate too :D I don't really dress as them, unless maybe they have movie adaption for me to refer too. I'm not sure. I have never done that.
