Waiting on Wednesday - Forget Her Nots

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Forget-Her-Nots
by Amy Brecount White
Release Date: March 2, 2010

When someone leaves three mystery flowers outside her dorm door, Laurel thinks that maybe the Avondale School isn't so awful after all — until her own body starts to freak out. In the middle of her English presentation on the Victorian Language of Flowers, strange words pop into her head, and her body seems to tingle and hum. Impulsively, Laurel gives the love bouquet she made to demonstrate the language to her spinster English teacher. When that teacher unexpectedly and immediately finds romance, Laurel suspects that something — something magical — is up. With her new friend, Kate, she sets out to discover the origins and breadth of her powers by experimenting on herself and others. But she can’t seem to find any living experts in the field of flower powers to guide her. And her bouquets don't always do her bidding, especially when it comes to her own crush, Justin. Rumors about Laurel and her flowers fly across campus, and she's soon besieged by requests from girls — both friends and enemies — who want their lives magically transformed — just in time for prom.

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
by Beth Fantaskey

Jessica is an average farm girl. She shovels out horse stalls, flirts with the cute boy next door and tries to get by as being normal in high school. All of that changes when Lucius Vladescu shows up - her supposed vampire betrothed. Which, Lucius is hot - but Jess thinks he's crazy for saying he is a vampire.

But is Jess the crazy one for resisting the sexy Romanian young man who tries to swoon her off the bat? But how long can you push away a vampire without getting bitten?

I absolutely loved this book. Another audio for me and let me tell you, Lucius' voice was very well done and made my heart thud that much faster when his voice came on. You get the greatest view of both Jessica and Lucius and why they do what they do. Jess through the general narration and Lucius through the letters he writes to his uncle in Romania.

Lucius is my ideal picture of a vampire, with glimpses of a human soul, but also the ability to be cold in a way that he can distance himself from all emotion and attachment. And the sex appeal... well that was dead-on.

If you're looking for a good vampire read - without the flighty annoying female role - check this book out. Jessica has flaws as a character and strengths as well. I liked watching her change throughout the course of the book into more of a regal vampire than American teenage girl.

Definitely an entertaining read.

5/5 Roses

I have yet to read this myself, but to read more of the story of Jessica and Lucius - after you read this delectable book of course - go to Beth Fantaskey's website and check out the wedding!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

If I Stay
by Gayle Forman

Mia wakes up from an accident - a bad car accident. What she soon realizes is that she's not quite herself anymore. Her body is in a coma and she is free to roam and watch all angles of what is happening. Her parents are dead and her little brother in bad condition. What Mia has to decide is if there is a life, if she wants one, without her family.

Will her boyfriend and other family be enough to make her decide to stay. Or will she be better off with her family, on the other side. Mia must decide whether or not she stays or goes.

This mind-blowing, tear-jerking novel was an enchantment. I was immersed in the story, into Mia's character - completely and totally. I couldn't wait to finish the audiobook - performed by the marvelous Kirsten Potter.

If ever you need some deep, moving novel - this should be the one you pick up. The book left me nearly wordless and I hope I am describing it in a light that makes it so. When you read it, you'll know exactly what I mean.
